In the latest episode of the Ol' Boy Podcast, host Chad Ward sits down with six-time world champion bareback rider Kaycee Feild. From the adrenaline-fueled arenas of rodeo to thriving business ventures, Feild’s journey is an inspiring testament to dedication, resilience, and the cowboy way of life. In this blog post, we dive deeper into the conversation's highlights, including Feild's family's influence, his mental and physical preparation, his entrepreneurial endeavors, and the values he imparts to his children.

The Cowboy Legacy: Family Influences and Early Years in Rodeo

During the podcast, Feild emphasized the significant role his family played in shaping his career. Raised in a rodeo family, Kaycee was naturally drawn to the sport, inspired by his father, Lewis Feild, a ProRodeo Hall of Famer and five-time world champion.

"The generational aspect of rodeo isn't just about tradition," Feild shared. "It's about passing down the values of hard work, dedication, and integrity."

This legacy propelled him into the rodeo world at a young age. His breakthrough moment came at the college finals, where under his father's advice, he skipped school for a year to focus on his rodeo career, a gamble that paid off significantly.

The Mental Fortitude and Physical Preparation Required for Championships

Feild's path to success was not without challenges. He candidly discussed the intense mental and physical preparation necessary for events like the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). The discipline required in rodeo mirrors that of professional sports teams.

“Rodeo is both mentally and physically demanding,” Feild explained. “You have to be 100% focused. There’s no room for mistakes.”

His dedication was evident as he described his routine leading up to the NFR in Las Vegas. The importance of rest, proper training, and mental readiness were critical components contributing to his success.

Transitioning from Rodeo to Business: The Birth of an Entrepreneur

After achieving remarkable success in rodeo, Feild ventured into the world of business. With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, he saw an opportunity in the emerging CBD market. Though initially hesitant due to misconceptions and concerns for his family’s legacy, Feild launched Power Pro, a CBD product company.

"I consulted with my brother and decided it was the right move," Feild recalled. "The learning curve was steep, especially in technology and fulfillment operations, but the challenge was similar to rodeo—it's about persistence and building strong relationships."

His entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Feild also acquired a cowboy hat company and a fulfillment company, showcasing his determination to succeed off the rodeo circuit.

Balancing Family and Entrepreneurship: Teaching Life Skills Beyond Rodeo

Feild’s passion for teaching his children the cowboy way of life and the importance of hard work was a recurrent theme in the conversation. Emphasizing life skills over rodeo careers, he highlighted the value of entrepreneurship and setting a positive example for his kids.

“Passing on the cowboy way of life isn’t just about the rodeo,” Feild mentioned. “It’s about teaching them business skills and the importance of hard work.”

His involvement with youth programs and the Wrangler National Patriot program reflects his commitment to giving back and mentoring the next generation. Whether through visiting children's hospitals or supporting military troops, Feild’s dedication to service and impact is evident.

Overcoming Adversity: The Road to Recovery and Spiritual Growth

In 2019, Feild faced a severe injury that tested his resilience. His recovery process was grueling, involving months of intense rehab due to the severity of his brain injury. Despite the challenges, Feild found new determination and focus, reflecting on his spiritual growth and the support from his community.

"The accident shaped my perspective on life and rodeo," Feild reflected. "It reinforced the importance of spirituality and being a positive influence on others."

Conclusion: The Importance of a Positive Mindset

Feild’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of a positive mindset and looking for the good in life. Whether in the rodeo arena or in business, his journey showcases the essence of dedication, resilience, and integrity. As he continues to inspire both within and outside the rodeo community, Kaycee Feild stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the cowboy way of life.
